Taking a Walk on the Wild Side- The Canal Way

We went on an educational walk along the Grand Canal. We examined the area of the canal between the 10th and 11th locks. Our guide, Sandra Scully, told us lots about the history of the Grand Canal. We learned

Omer's Lockhouse, 1790

We then went walking in the adjacent fields where we spotted various wildlife, trees, and shrubs. We  went looking for frogs. We found two frogs and some of us were brave enough to hold them!

We had some time to pick wild fruits, including blackberries, rosehips and sloe berries. The blackberries were delicious!

Tag Rugby Blitz

Sixth Class played in a tag Rugby Blitz, organised by Clondalkin Rugby Club. Lots of local schools played in the Blitz and we played against St. Joseph's, St. John's, Gaelscoil Cluain Dolcáin and Sruleen. We enjoyed learning the rules of tag rugby, it's a really fun game to play and we will definitely try it out again in school.

Charcoal Self Portraits

We used charcoal and mirrors to draw self-portraits. We concentrated on where to put our facial features. We added shading and used rubbers to create lighter areas.

We learned how to position the features on our face in the correct places by drawing horizontal and vertical lines. When we were finished we smudged out the lines with our fingers.

Senior Sports Day

We had a Sports Day at the start of September. The sun shone and we had great fun competing in sprints, a relay, a three-legged race, a sack race, high jump and javelin throwing.
